SONA 2023

HREP PREPS FOR CONTINGENCIES FOR SONA 2023

The House of Representatives is very much ready and prepared for any eventuality or contingency that may arise during the second State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, July 24, 2023 to ensure the safety of the attendees in case of emergencies during the event.

According to House Engineering and Physical Facilities Department (EPFD) Executive Director (ED) Engr. Renato Dela Torre, the HREP’s evacuation plan is among the top priorities for the SONA 2023 contingency preparations.

The evacuation plan includes emergency scenarios, such as earthquake, fire and even terrorism. ED Dela Torre emphasized that close coordination with the Legislative Security Bureau (LSB) has been established to effectively manage various emergency scenarios, since the LSB is the service unit responsible for the implementation of the evacuation plan.

Under the plan, personnel from different departments have been assigned specific roles to effectively execute the evacuation. “Public awareness regarding safety measures is taken seriously,” he said.

In the final SONA 2023 Inter-Agency Coordination Meeting held last July 17, 2023, Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) Atty. Grace Andres identified the the HRep Evacuation Plan is one of the eight (8) collaterals included in the SONA 2023 invitations being distributed to guests.

ED Dela Torre said the EPFD’s preparations for SONA 2023 have been ongoing for months, covering the House Plenary Hall, road networks, grounds and buildings, sound system and electrical works. He added that said the EPFD intends to collaborate soon with the House Media Affairs and Public Relations Service (MAPRS) to create a video presentation of the emergency procedures. During session suspensions, the presentation will be shown on the Plenary Hall screens for the awareness and information of all the attendees.
