SONA 2023

PREPARATIONS FOR SONA 2023 BEGIN

Planning for the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. began in earnest on Monday when representatives from the Office of the Presidential Protocol and the Senate of the Philippines met with officials from the House of Representatives (HRep) to discuss arrangements for the event.
HRep Secretary General Reginald Velasco proposed preliminary ideas to make this year’s SONA more memorable and better than previous ones. Chief of Presidential Protocol (COPP) Adelio Angelito Cruz committed to raise these ideas to the President for approval. Anticipating that more people would want to physically attend this year’s SONA and given the limited space available at the Plenary, Secretary General Velasco also shared that Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez has approved the assignment of additional rooms at the Batasan Complex to accommodate more guests. Deputy Secretary General Grace Andres also updated attendees with the initial groundwork already undertaken by the HRep for the SONA.
A follow-up meeting has been scheduled to hammer out the plans for this year’s SONA in greater detail.
The SONA, which will also be livestreamed, is scheduled on July 24, 2023.
