HOUSE MEETS WITH MEDIA ANEW RE: SONA 2023 COVERAGE

Members of the quad-media met with the House of Representatives’ Media Affairs and Public Relations Service-Press and Public Affairs Bureau (MAPRS-PPAB) to discuss their requirements to ensure better coverage of the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Acknowledging the necessity of the precautions needed to secure the President, members of the media present during the meeting nonetheless requested that they be positioned at a site nearer to the Plenary Hall. In 2022, House accredited media occupied a room at the South Wing Annex building of the Batasan Complex.
MAPRS Director Joaquin Santiago assured those present that the House leadership recognizes the value of its media partners and is considering all options available to enhance the reporting conditions for the SONA.
Other concerns raised included the provision of telephone lines, media positioning at the north and south lobbies, health and security measures that shall be implemented on the day of the SONA, parking for broadcast facilities, among others. Mr. Santiago committed to update House accredited media of SONA guidelines as soon as these become available.
The SONA is scheduled on July 24, 2023.
