THE SERGEANT-AT-ARMS is responsible for the security and maintenance of order in the Senate in accordance with the orders of the Senate President or Secretary. It provides physical and logical security for the members of the Senate and their staff, offices of the Secretariat and all properties located within its premises.

THE SERGEANT-AT-ARMS is responsible for the maintenance of order in the House of Representatives Building Complex, enforcement of House Rules, and protection of the lives of the Officers and Members of the House, its personnel and guests as well as properties found therein. Like the Secretary General, the Sergeant-at-Arms is elected by a majority vote of all the Members at the commencement of each Congress.
